Orientation about the project<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SINTEF Horizon project involves a significant expansion of<\/p>\n

SINTEF Energi’s premises at Sem S\u00e6land vei 11 in Trondheim.<\/p>\n

The project includes:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Removal of existing top floor, replaced with 4 new ones<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    floors.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Extension with a glass facade towards Gamle Fysikk and six new ones<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      floors of offices above a glass courtyard.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Establishment of a new lower floor with an auditorium between<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        existing buildings and Old Physics.<\/p>\n

        Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Existing foundations do not have the capacity to handle<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          the additional loads from the new floors, and the ground remains<\/p>\n

          mainly of clay.<\/p>\n

          1. Securing the construction pit must be carried out for both<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            existing building and Gamle Fysikk, a listed building with<\/p>\n

            daily activity.<\/p>\n

            1. Piles are being established near the high-voltage laboratory, which is in operation.<\/li>\n
            2. Other activities on campus must not be disturbed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Basic conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n

              The ground consists of a top layer of sand\/silty sand (4-6 metres) above<\/p>\n

              clay\/silt down to elevation +30. Below this is a consolidated sand layer<\/p>\n

              which can carry the loads from the building.<\/p>\n

              Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n

              The jet piles met the requirements for compressive strength, and settlement measurements showed<\/strong><\/p>\n

              minimal deviations. The project took somewhat longer than planned,<\/strong><\/p>\n

              mainly due to leaks in the ground and logistical problems on<\/strong><\/p>\n
